Duties

If your daughter is planning her wedding you are more than likely wondering exactly what you will be expected to do or how much she will allow you to be involved. Well, as a rule of thumb, some duties are expected of the mother of the bride.

The duties include:
* The most important thing on your list is to give your daughter support
* Help her find her wedding gown and the attire for others in the wedding party
* Help her find the location for the wedding
* Help her find the location for the reception
* Meet the groom’ parents
* Let the groom’s mother know what is going on with the wedding such as colors chosen, flowers, locations, times, etc…
* If you can show her your gown, it would be nice. This way she can try to find a gown that will compliment the one you will wear
* Talk over the budget of the wedding with your daughter and her fiancé. Let them know how much you can spend and how many guests you desire
* Write up the guest list for your side of the family. If you have not heard from some members of the family, call them to learn if they will be attending
* Reserve hotel rooms together for out of town guests
* Let guests know where the couple has registered
* You will be the hostess at the wedding and reception, be sure your guests are comfortable. Also, ensure that your daughter has greeted every guest
* Attend the wedding shower and rehearsal dinner

Wedding

When you are choosing photography, you want to ensure that you give him a list of the photos that you desire for each portion of the ceremony and some prior to the ceremony and even afterwards at the reception. It would be best if you make a list for the photographer but also give him or her the ability to use their own creativity to take natural shots.

Some of the most popular shots taken before the ceremony include:
The bride looking into a mirror
The bride and bridesmaids putting on makeup
The Wedding dress lying over a chair
The bride pinning corsage on her mother
The bride pinning boutonniere on her father
The bride's garter
The bride's veil
The Bride hugging her parents
Zipping up or buttoning the wedding dress
Mother of the bride fastening the bride's necklace
The bride and parents leaving for ceremony
The groom tying his tie
The groom looking into mirror
The groom pinning corsage on his mother
The groom pinning boutonniere on his father
The groom hugging his parents
The groom and parents leaving for ceremony

You can also come up with your own ideas instead of choosing from this list. Remember, the photos you desire before the ceremony may not be the same as others. You may wish to include other family members such as the ring bearer or flower girl preparing for the ceremony as well. The choices of your before the ceremony photographs should be ones that you want to help you remember this special day including all aspects that are special both the bride and groom.
