Going Green at Your Wedding
Blog / Going Green at Your Wedding
Going green is a huge trend these days when it comes to helping with the environment. This trend can also be incorporated into your wedding. Not only will the environment appreciate it but it also adds a truly unique flair to your big day!
The first thing you can do to stay green at your wedding is to think about the dress. Many don't even think that a dress can be harmful to the environment but, depending on the materials you use, you can think green while staying beautiful. Choose fabrics such as silk, cotton, or linen as these are the most eco-friendly. Buying a second hand wedding dress can be a great way to reduce and reuse which of course, is another great way to help the environment. You can also go the "something old" approach by wearing your mother's wedding gown.
When it comes to your flowers, choose those that are organic and in season. Your florist will be able to give you details on both of these. It's also a great idea to use something other than flowers as centrepieces. These will be beautiful and will also help preserve the world's flower crops.
Invitations of course, can be printed on recycled paper but there are other ways to stay green with the invites. Consider sending all mail such as save-the-dates, invitations and emails via email. Some might see this as being impersonal but just explain your reason for doing so.
When it comes to planning the menu, plan the reception meal according to food that is in season. Because there will be so many leftovers, you can donate this food to a shelter or have take-out boxes ready for guests. Cake, coffee, and tea can also be totally organic and they taste just as great!
When it comes to venue, encourage your guests to carpool to save harmful emissions being put out into the environment. Search for a place that is naturally beautiful. This will not only save the planet's resources on decorations but it will save you some money too!
All it takes is a little imagination to incorporate any ideas that are important to you into your wedding day. This is no different when it comes to going to green for your wedding and it can be a lot of fun to come up with innovative ideas!

Hi,
Just wanted to say that the idea of staying "green" or going "green" when it comes to your wedding is an absolute fantastic idea. I don't think enough people actually consider it. I found a couple of good sites concerning this issue such as wedding dresses made out of hemp (how cool!) and invitations printed on recyclable paper. Totally cool. Enjoyed the article. Will be emailing it to a couple of my friends!
Thanks,
Amanda
