Thinking of Thank Yous

Blog / Thinking of Thank Yous

One more overwhelming task that couples have to face when it comes to the wedding is the long list of thank you notes that need to be written. One way to lessen the burden is to think about it beforehand and get organized.
When you're first creating the guest list, carefully gather complete names and addresses of everyone who will be invited. Make room on the list to keep track of presents received and thank you notes sent so all the information will be in a single place.
If you're in the early stages of wedding planning, give yourself a head start by ordering thank you notes the same time you order your invitations. You could also address the thank you notes at the same time you're addressing your invites and arrange them in alphabetical order. This will make it easier to find them later.
Assemble a kit of everything you will need including pens, the guest list and records, stationery and stamps. Put them all in a box. Again, to keep everything in one place.
As presents arrive before the wedding, record what the gift was beside the guest's name as soon as you open the gift. Write the thank you note immediately. This lets people know that you have received their gift. It's best to finish these before the wedding.
Sometimes guests bring the gifts directly to the wedding. Set these aside but again, record what was sent by whom immediately after opening. Try to write these thank you notes as soon as possible after the wedding.
To avoid becoming overwhelmed, break the thank yous into batches - you can write to your family and your fiance can write to theirs. You can also set aside a set number of invites to write per day until they are finished or set aside a certain number of hours each day to write out thank yous. All thank you notes should be mailed no later than three months after the wedding.
