Toning Down the Tab

Blog / Toning Down the Tab

Cutting back on the bar tab for your wedding can be a priority but how do you do it without looking cheap or tacky? Truth be told, no one should think any less of you for wanting to cut costs wherever you can. But if you're still worried about it, there are a few things that can be done.
Start by cutting back on the options. To make it a little less noticeable, vary the types of drinks you do offer. Three specialty drinks is a good number. You can have one "girlie" drink such as a daiquiri, one a little more masculine such as a Manhattan made with whiskey and one that's a happy medium such as a champagne cocktail (you can make this with dry sparkling wine as this is less costly.) Do make sure that you offer both a red and white wine but only offer two different types of beer.
Making the cocktails premixed in pitchers will save on bartender fees and buying larger bottles of liquor is a better value as well. As a final tip, pass the cocktails around as guests enter the room. They will more than likely be happy to accept a drink from the tray and maybe not even visit the bar to notice the limited choices.

Great tips. Especially having passed cocktails, but that may run up your service charge a bit.
