Finding Your Florist

Blog / Finding Your Florist

Choosing a floral designer and getting gorgeous arrangements while maintaining the budget is just one of the tricky tasks for any bride-to-be. Here are some tips in finding the perfect florist.
Start Early. Good florists are often booked up to a year in advance so don't delay your search. Begin researching by checking with recently married friends for their recommendations. Asking around at reception venues for names of florists the staff has worked with is also a good idea.
Ask the florist. Once you have narrowed down your list to ones you think may be suitable for you, ask them questions. Have they worked at your location before? Which flowers will be in season? What do they suggest for your style and budget? These answers will help in making the final choice.
Discuss ideas. After the florist has been hired, show them magazine pictures of arrangements that you like and don't like and talk about your options. Supply a photo of the dress, as the gown can establish the tone for the event. Also provide swatches from the bridesmaids dresses so the bouquets will complement them.
Consider costs. Be honest about the budget. The florist should be able to provide options within the financial limit without compromising on style.
Read the fine print. The contract should include itemized cost for the flowers, plus acceptable substitutes in case the chosen flowers aren't available for any reason. It should also specify when and where the flowers will arrive and who will set them up.

Spot on, with one exception. Show pictures to the florist BEFORE you hire one. Some will get your vision, some won't. Best to know that before you hire them.
