Normally, attendants in a wedding are close family and friends of the bride and groom. The bride’s brothers to be ushers or the groom’s sisters to be bridesmaids are the most common attendants, this shows a unity among the families. This does not have to be the rule of thumb and can really only be accomplished with large weddings.

When it comes to choosing your bridal party, you may have problems in deciding which people you should ask. In many cases, you may be concerned about hurting others feelings. The number one rule to remember, is even if you are not close to your fiancé’s family members, you are about to be. You want to include them and this may help you become closer to his family and thus build a great relationship.

If you have some specific reason not to include your fiancé’s sister in your bridal party, you should explain this immediately to her and to your soon to be mother in law to avoid hurt feelings. You can always think of another way in which she can be a part of your wedding, such as give a toast, read your favorite poem, and you can even bring her along when choosing attire or decorations.

The average wedding has four to six bridesmaids and about the same amount of ushers. When it comes to ushers, you should have one usher for every fifty guests.

Of course, this is your wedding and you have most of it planned in your mind way before your fiancé popped the question. However, when you were planning your wedding you were not thinking about the man you were going to marry. Now, you must consider his family as well as yours and create a loving and unified family. The best place to start is at your wedding.
