Wedding Invitation Etiquette

Blog / Wedding Invitation Etiquette

There is a special etiquette when it comes to the wording on your wedding invitations. The majority of the time, wedding invitations are formal therefore they should be written in the third person.

The first line of the invitation should be the name of the hosts. This can be the bride’s parents, groom’s parents, or the couples themselves.

The second line is the one that extends the invite such
Would be honored of your presence at the marriage of
Would like you to help celebrate the marriage of
Invite you to celebrate with them at the marriage of
Would consider it a blessing if you could be present at the marriage of
Request the pleasure of your company
Request the pleasure of your presence

An example would be:
Mr. and Mrs. Tim Jones
invite you to celebrate with them at the marriage of their daughter
Sarah Ann
to
Henry Chambers
Saturday, the 22nd day of June
at 3pm
Central Baptist Church
City, State

The return address on the envelope should be the ones hosting the wedding. The response card should also have the address of the hosts.

This is your wedding and it should be a time of love and romance. You can choose your own wording for the invitation and use any style you wish. The idea is that you convey the desire for the guests to attend your special day. If your wedding is not going to be such a formal affair, such as a beach wedding, you can always include in this in your invitation.

Using poetry or even words to your favorite song can give your invitations a unique special and authentic feel unlike other weddings.
