Blog / Duties of the Maid of Honor
You and your best friend have been planning each others wedding since you around 12 years old. Now, here it is, your best friend is getting married and you are of course going to be the Maid of Honor. Both of you are excited; however, if you have never been in a wedding party before you may not realize exactly what a Maid of Honor is suppose to do. Here is the checklist for the duties of the Maid of Honor.
The number one thing you must remember, is that you are there to help your friend, the bride to be, with just about everything. You are her right hand gal and her major support. You will go with her to find the best location for the wedding, reception, and help her decide the date and time of both.
Your main job is to relieve all the stress that she is under so she can enjoy her special day. You can help her with many of the tasks that are ahead of her prior to the wedding such as choosing wedding invitations, addressing the invitation, choosing decorations for the wedding and the reception, choosing the favors, ordering all of these decoration, help her to plan seating arrangements, go with her to register for her wedding gifts, and of course go shopping for the wedding dress, and dresses of the rest of the wedding party.
Now on to other duties:
* Host and plan the bridal shower
* Help organize the ceremony with the bridesmaids
* Attend the wedding rehearsal and wedding rehearsal dinner.
* Help out as much as possible during the rehearsal and dinner
* Get the bride to the church on time
* Help her dress, apply her make-up, and make sure every hair is in place
* Run errands or messages to other wedding party members or family members for the bride
* Check to ensure everything is ready and in place for the reception
* Ensure all gifts have arrived and are placed in the proper places
* Sign the marriage license
* Move the veil or train if needed so she does not trip
* Hold the brides bouquet during the ceremony
* Hold the groom’s ring until you give it to the bride, unless the ring bearer is responsible for this.
* After the best man gives his speech at the reception, you will give a speech or toast.
* At the reception, dance with the best man
* Ensure along with the best man that all gives are taken to the bride and groom’s home after the reception.
