When big day is over, you will probably thinking about what to do with the beautiful wedding dress that you spent so much money on. Some people simply take their wedding dress and put it in their closet. There is nothing wrong with doing this, but over time your dress may become damaged. So if you are interested in a better way to save your wedding dress, you will want to look into the preservation techniques that are available to you.
The reason for preserving your wedding dress the right way is quite simple. It will keep your dress in tiptop condition. You will have it to look back on and remember how fabulous you looked in it, and down the road your daughter, sister, niece, or whoever can wear your dress if they so desire. It is better to take the appropriate steps up front to have your wedding dress preserved, than to wait until the time comes and have to try and get it restored.
As soon as possible after the wedding you will want to have your wedding dress preserved. If you do not wait a long time, stains that may have occurred can be washed out so that the preservation process is much more effective. Remember, the longer you wait to move forward with the preservation process the better chance there is that you will have to live with some damage or stains.
Another reason that wedding dress preservation is a good thing is that it will preserve the color of your dress. Over time, fabric discoloration may occur if you do not have your wedding dress properly preserved. In order to prevent this, during the preservation process your wedding dress will be stuffed with acid free tissue, and kept in an acid free box, which helps preserve its color.
They are several steps that go into the wedding dress preservation process. After you find somebody that specializes in this area, they will get started as soon as you give them your dress.
The first thing that they will do is analyze your dress to determine if there are any stains that need to be removed. At the same time they may also fix any damage that may have occurred such as torn seams or loose beads.
During the next step, all of the stains are cleaned with a cleanser that is suited for your wedding dress fabric. From there, your wedding dress will be thoroughly cleaned in a solvent such as hydrocarbon.
After the cleaning process is complete your wedding dress will be put into an acid free box, and stuffed with acid free paper. During the stuffing process your dress will be formed in a way that prevents excess creases.
Finally, you will have to make a decision as to whether you want to have the box sealed. If you think that you may want to view your wedding dress every so often, keeping the box unsealed is the way to go.
The price for wedding dress preservation varies, but usually runs in the range of $300 to $400 when done by a professional. If this is too much, there are in home preservation kits that you can buy for approximately $75.
If you want to keep your wedding dress in perfect shape over time, having it preserved is the way to go.
