Choosing your wedding cake can be one of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning process. While there may be some details of wedding planning that you may find tedious choosing a cake generally isn't one of them. When you get around to the fun stuff such as choosing a wedding cake, try to really savior the moment - it's time to take a step back from the small details, and add a bit of fun and excitement.
Just like most parts of planning a wedding one area that you will need to consider when buying a cake is price. Just like anything else in the planning process you can shop around until you find a price that suits your needs. Obviously, the bigger the cake the more money it is going to cost you. Generally speaking, if you are to buy a wedding cake at a bakery you will have to pay somewhere in the range of $3 to $7 per slice. But if you decide to step up your wedding cake and deal with a well known professional in the field you will be paying in upwards of $15 per slice. Making this decision depends on how creative you want to get, as well as how big your wedding cake needs to be.
The actual design of your wedding cake can be inspired by a number of different areas. Some people choose their wedding cake based solely on personal preference. There is nothing wrong with this, and it is usually the most common way of choosing the best wedding cake. But to go along with this you can also make a choice based on other influences, including the season or the overall theme of your wedding. For instance, if you are having spring wedding that is decorated with bright colors you may want to incorporate this into your cake design.
When it comes to the shape of your wedding cake, your options are endless. There are only two things that are standing in your way when designing a wedding cake. First off, your own creativity can hold you back. In other words you can get as creative as you want; if you can imagine it, it usually can be done. The only other thing in your way as far as shape is concerned is finding a baker that can work within your needs. Remember, being a baker that specializes in wedding cakes takes a lot of skill and some people have more skill than others. For this reason if you have a great idea that one baker cannot carry out, search around until you find somebody that can meet your needs. If you look around hard enough you will more than likely find a baker that is willing to give your idea a shot.
If you are not interested in getting too creative you can simply opt for a more traditional wedding cake. The most popular option is a round tier cake, which can come in a range of different sizes to accommodate your needs.
As far as flavor is concerned your options are again endless. You can choose a wedding cake that has any type of flavoring that you choose. With that said, there are some flavor combinations that go together better than others. As it is your wedding cake you should make sure that you like the flavor combination first and foremost. But you may want to take your guest's tastes into consideration as well. Of course you will not want to choose a cake that the majority of your guests would not like.
Chocolate has always been a popular flavor. Some couples decide that they simply want a plain chocolate wedding cake, where as others like to mix in other flavors. Some of the more popular options to combine with chocolate include almonds, mint, orange, and coffee. It is important to remember that outside of orange, other citrus fruits don't really work that well with a chocolate wedding cake.
If a chocolate wedding cake is not right for you, another well-liked option is vanilla. It can also be combined with several other flavors such as hazelnuts, almonds and summer fruits.
To top off your wedding cake creation, a figurine is often popular. There are hundreds of different figurines that you can put on top of your wedding cake. Shop around until you find the one that best represents you and your partner.
Since the primary wedding cake is mostly the bride's creation, it is common for the groom to have a cake as well. The groom's cake can be in any shape or size that he desires. Having a groom's cake is not a necessity, but it is a nice way to allow him to get involved, and he can really show his creative side by designing a cake that compliments the main offering.
If you are having a hard time making a decision on what type of wedding cake is best for you there are a few options that you may want to take advantage of. First off, you will want to taste a variety of different cakes so that you get a good idea as to which flavor is best for you. Most bakers will allow you to do this for free so there is no reason that you should pass up this offering of free cake!
If you are struggling with the design of your wedding cake feel free to ask your baker for help. They are the one with the experience, so they should be able to give you a bit of direction. They may even be able to show you pictures of past creations which may inspire your mind.
And if you are searching for wedding cake pictures you can find them online. There are many sites that specialize in wedding cakes and intricate designs. Again, these pictures can help make your decision easier.
Choosing a wedding cake is a lot of fun. There may be some decisions that you have to make, but when it comes to the wedding planning process this is one of the more enjoyable steps.
