Planning A Small Wedding
Articles / / Planning A Small Wedding
There used to be a time when almost every couple wanted their wedding to be as large as they could afford. But in recent years, small weddings are becoming the newest craze. There are many reasons that people prefer small weddings over large ones. In some cases a couple will have a small wedding because they cannot afford anything too big. But finances are not the only reason that small weddings are becoming more and more popular by the year. After all, money definitely is not everything when it comes to a wedding.
One of the biggest advantages of a small wedding is that you will get to celebrate your big day with the people that you love the most. There is nothing wrong with having a big wedding, but if you do you will have to deal with having a lot of people there, many that you may not be particularly close with. At a small wedding you will only be surrounded by your closest friends and family; this can make for a very enjoyable and intimate experience.
To go along with being surrounded by your closest friends and family, you will be much more relaxed on your wedding day. Think about it this way; are you ever nervous at home when you are with your friends or family? The answer is probably no. So by having a small wedding where you know everyone on a personal level you should hopefully feel much more relaxed. This goes a long way in ensuring that your big day goes off as smoothly as possible.
While money is not everything when it comes to planning a wedding, (and in an ideal world it would be nothing) it does have its place. A small wedding is a great way to save money in a number of different areas. Remember, the more people that you invite to your wedding, the more money you will have to spend on them. This holds true from early announcements and invitations through to the reception where venue and catering costs usually depend on the amount of people invited. While cutting costs, you can put your money towards having exactly what you want, but with a smaller guest list.
Another huge advantage of a small wedding is that you will get to spend a lot of time with all of your guests. At a large wedding, even with the most organized receiving line, the couple still generally spends very little time with every guest. At a small wedding the couple can spend a lot more time with each and every person. Not only does this make the couple feel better, but the guests will also feel more wanted as well.
But along with all of the benefits of having a small wedding, there are also a few drawbacks as well.
The biggest problem that a couple runs into when planning a small wedding is that they may have to leave a lot of people off their wedding guest list. When it comes down to it some couples simply know too many people. For this reason they cannot pare down their guest list without making some people upset. There is nothing wrong with this if you find yourself in this type of predicament. The fact of the matter is that there is no way of avoiding this problem in some cases.
Another disadvantage of a small wedding is that you will not receive as many wedding gifts. This may sound a bit selfish, but it is hard to not think about all of the gifts that you will receive at your wedding. And with a larger wedding, more gifts are sure to follow in line. This alone is not a reason for you to invite a lot of people to your wedding, but it is definitely a drawback of having a smaller get together.
Some people agree that small weddings are not as fun as large ones. They think that over the course of the reception, things may get stale, and the party will die down before it really gets going. In some cases this might be true, but it does not always work out like this. If you are worried about this, having a small wedding may be a drawback. Remember, this is not always the case, but is definitely something to think about if you are going to plan on having a small wedding.
There are many advantages and disadvantages to having a small wedding. If you are not sure if a small wedding is right for you, look into the pros and cons for your individual situation. By doing this you should be able to make a determination as to which size wedding to proceed with. Your wedding should make you happy. This means that you can have a small wedding, a large wedding, or anything in between. As long as you look into what you will get with each size wedding, you will be able to make a decision as to which option best suits your needs.
