Other Roles For Guests

When it comes to the role of wedding guests, there is not hard and fast template to follow. There never has been a detailed list of what guests should do, and there probably never will be. When it comes down to it, the wedding guests get the best of both worlds. They get to have a great time while celebrating a wonderful thing, while in most cases they have few responsibilities. For some people, simply being a guest is much better than actually being in the wedding itself. This allows for a much less stressful and laid back situation.

Just because guests do not have any formal roles to follow, some couples call on guests for many different things. If you plan on doing this, make sure that you are open and understanding. If you approach somebody about helping you out at your wedding or reception, try to do so in a courteous manner. Tell them that you would appreciate their help, but it is not required in the least bit. In other words, make sure that you do not make them feel like they have no choice.

On the other end of things, if you are asked to assist in some way you should be flattered. This means that the couple thinks enough of you to invite you to be more than just a regular guest. If you have the time there is no reason that you should not take up this offer. But if you do not want to, feel free to respectfully decline.

A few of the roles that may be asked of particular guests include help at the reception, or organizing before the wedding. Often times a little bit of help can go a long way. Things such as making sure that all of the tables are set up correctly or that the centerpieces are in the right place can be very important. This may not seem like a lot, but every little detail counts.

There are a couple of things that you must do as a guest though. First off, you will want to bring a gift. If you are having a hard time trying to decide, check the couple's gift registry. Even if you don't buy a gift from the registry it will give you a good idea of what the couple wants.

As a guest at the wedding, you should make sure that you show on time. It is disrespectful to interrupt by showing up late, so the best thing to do is plan ahead and make sure that you have plenty of time. Also, if you will be taking kids with you it is important that you try to keep them under control as much as possible.

Finally, when you are ready to leave, make sure you congratulate and thank the newlyweds. You should never forget to do this; it is common courtesy.

Overall, being a wedding guest is not difficult. Have fun and enjoy watching the people you care about getting married.
