The Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner is one of the most important parts of the pre wedding activities. This has been a tradition for quite some time, and it will probably continue to be thanks to the benefits it offers to the couple. The main reason that you will have a rehearsal dinner is to thank the people who you are close with, both your friends and family. This is a time to show them that you appreciate what they have done for you over the course of the planning process, and that you are glad they will be around for the wedding itself. Everybody likes to be appreciated, and at the rehearsal dinner you will be able to show your respect and thankfulness for all of their help.

In the past, rehearsal dinners were seen as small intimate gatherings of close family and friends; basically the people that are in the wedding party. But as of late, rehearsal dinners are growing in size. More and more couples are deciding that instead of having a small dinner that they should invite as many people as possible. There are no cut and dry rules that you need to follow; just make sure that you are fair when giving out the invites. You never want to get yourself into a position where you left somebody out by mistake.

If you are only going to have a few people at your rehearsal dinner there is no need to send out invitations. But on the other hand, the larger the guest list gets, the more important it is that you send out invitations. It is much easier to do this than to try to get in touch with everyone in person or over the phone.

The rehearsal dinner is usually held after the ceremony rehearsal, and in most cases this is the day before the wedding. The reason for holding these rehearsals the day before the actual wedding is two fold. First off, by doing this everybody will become familiar with their roles and will not have a lot of time to forget what they are supposed to do. Also, the rehearsal dinner is a great way for people, especially the couple, to work out any jitters. It helps to calm them down so that when the wedding rolls around they will be ready to go.

As far as the venue for the rehearsal dinner, the choice is yours, but there are a few options you may want to consider. You can either decide to have a formal rehearsal dinner at a fancy restaurant, or a laid back version at a restaurant or somebody's home. Since a rehearsal dinner is supposed to help calm nerves and give everyone a chance to bond, informal can sometimes be the best way to go. You want to try to get everybody to relax and have a good time.

If you are going to have a formal rehearsal dinner you may want to search for a nice restaurant in the area. Why not rent out a room, and everyone can get together in a private setting?

On the less formal side of things, you may want to have your rehearsal dinner at your home. This is becoming more common, and is a great way to set up a fun atmosphere. If you are worried about cooking for everybody, look into having it catered. This can make your job much easier.

Keep in mind that the rehearsal dinner is supposed to be a fun event where the couple can show their gratitude for all of the help that they have received.
