Paying For Your Wedding Yourselves
Articles / Themes / Paying For Your Wedding Yourselves
Even though some people may see having to pay for their own wedding as a bad thing, the fact of the matter is that there is some good that goes along with it as well. If you are in the position of having to pay for your own wedding, you are going to be contending with issues that other couples who have parents who are paying may not have to. But when all is said and done, everything turns out the same in the end. As long as there is enough money for the wedding that you want, it really has no bearing on where it comes from.
The biggest advantage of paying for your own wedding is the fact that this will give you full control of every last decision and detail. Think of it this way, if your parents are contributing to the money that is going towards the wedding you will have to let them have some sort of say as to who is invited, and where it is going to take place, among other details. Many people that do not want to have outside interference opt to pay for the wedding on their own for this reason. After all, if you are paying you have the right to be in charge of everything.
Even with this big advantage to paying for your own wedding, it is not quite that easy. Remember, you will still need to have the money to make ends meet. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you start saving the second that you know you are going to have to be financially responsible. A good time to figure this out is right after getting engaged. At this time both partners should ask their parents if they plan on contributing any money to the wedding. If the answer is yes then you will have to determine how much they are giving, and if it will be enough to pay for everything; in addition you will have to decide if you even want to take the money. If neither set of parents decides to contribute money, you'd better start saving. Make sure that you do not get into a spat over this. It is your parent's decision on whether or not they want to help out with money and if they don't, you can do everything on your own instead.
In order to start saving for your wedding you should try to get as organized as possible. This means doing more than simply throwing a couple of extra dollars aside each month. This will not get you anywhere in a hurry. Instead, set up a separate bank account that you vow not to touch unless it is for the wedding or anything that has to do with it. Additionally, you will want to save a certain amount of money that you make each month in this account. For example, you can decide to put away 20% of each paycheck. From there, you can then make a decision as to how long you will have to save before you have enough to have your dream wedding.
When you open your new bank account make sure that you due so carefully. You may be able to get a savings account that will earn you interest on your money. It may not be a lot, but over time it is better then nothing. Make sure that before you open any bank account, you read the terms and conditions that accompany it, ensuring that you have easy access to your money when you need it.
For people that are having a tough time paying for their own wedding, a consultant may be able to help. Sure, you will have to pay for the services but in the long run they can be well worth it. A wedding consultant should be able to help you cut costs at every corner in order to ensure that you get the most for your money. They may even be able to get you discounts with vendors they regularly work with as well as advise on money saving tips.
Finally, make sure that you and your fiancé are on the same page as far as the budget is concerned. You may be thinking one thing, while your fiancé is on a completely different page. As long as you agree on the budget everything will run smoothly.
As long as you set a budget with realistic goals that you stick to, paying for your own wedding should not be too much of a hassle. Never look at paying for your own wedding as a bad thing; instead find a way for it to work in a positive manner.
