Hiring A Wedding Band
Articles / / Hiring A Wedding Band
If you are going to hire a wedding band you are in for a lot of fun. This can be one of the most enjoyable aspects of the planning process. But just because you are going to have fun hiring a wedding band does not mean that there are no details to follow. In fact, you need to watch what you are doing very carefully so that you end up hiring a wedding band that truly compliments the reception you want, making it a party to remember.
The first step of the process is to find a few wedding bands that are in your area, or willing to travel to play at your reception. This will give you a good base to work from, and allow you to narrow down your choices as the process moves along.
After you have a solid list of wedding bands to choose from, the next step is to listen to some of their music. Many wedding bands have a website where you can listen to their music. Even though this can give you a good idea as to what their skills are, you do not want to stop there. The best thing you can do is listen to the wedding bands perform in person, preferably, you want them to audition for you. This is where the fun really comes in - free entertainment! It can be really romantic to have great wedding bands performing for you and your partner in your own private concert, and is definitely one of the highlights of wedding planning. If for some reason you can't get a personal performance still try to see them live. If they have another gig coming up, ask if there is anyway that you can attend for a few minutes. This way you will be able to hear them perform in person, and also see how they act in front of an audience.
When hiring a wedding band it's often best to find one that can play a variety of different music. The fact of the matter is that a band that only plays one type of song may get boring very quickly. There are times when a really romantic slow dance is necessary, but in turn you will also want faster songs that people can dance to. If you hire a wedding band that is not well versed, you may end up getting stuck with a monotone sound.
As you are speaking with potential bands, tell them what you expect, as well as what you envision from your reception. This will give them a good idea as to what you need, and will also give them a chance to tell if you if they can cater to your requirements. It is better to get this information sooner rather than later. In addition, also ask the bands you are talking to if they have any ideas of their own. If they have any experience playing at receptions they should be able to give you a few ideas of their own. Search for a band that is enthusiastic about your ideas, and are willing to work with them. A wedding band that thinks they know everything is not worth your time.
One area that you will not want to forget is the amount of space that your band will have to perform. Depending on your reception venue, this will vary. Just make sure that the band you hire is comfortable working in the space that you can give them.
Finally, do not forget to discuss price with a number of different bands. Every band will charge a different amount. Some will charge a flat rate while others by the hour. Make sure you have a very good estimate as to what you will have to pay. You can expect to pay anywhere between $1,000 and $5,000 for a wedding band.
Hiring the right wedding band can make any reception one to remember for both you and your guests.
