The Role Of Groomsmen

The groomsmen are an essential part of any wedding. Even though it is a lot of fun for groomsmen to take part in the activities, they are also called upon to help out in a few very important areas as well.

Groomsmen often double as ushers, helping people to their seats at the ceremony. If you are having a very large wedding you may want to have a couple of people that are fully devoted to this. If you do not you may end up with seating issues, as well as late arrivals getting in the way. After deciding on how many people you are going to invite you will be in a better position to determine the duties of your groomsmen at the actual ceremony.

Before the wedding day itself, the groomsmen must make themselves available for important tasks such as getting fitted for the formal wear. During this time they will be able to work with the groom and the best man in order to make a decision as to what works best.

And of course the groomsmen will attend the bachelor party. This is one of the most fun parts of being a groomsman, and one that everybody looks forward to. In addition to actually attending, the groomsmen can get together with the best man to help plan the occasion.

To go along with the bachelor's party, the groomsmen will also need to attend the rehearsal and the after party. It's important that they attend these functions so that they know what is going on, and so that they can learn their role in the wedding.

As the groom, it is important that you let your groomsmen know that you do not expect a gift at each one of these functions. Many people feel that it is their obligation as a groomsman to buy a gift for all of these events. While this may have been true in the past, in today's day and age it is no longer necessary. The groom is going to be looking towards the groomsmen for support and camaraderie; not to receive gifts time and time again. Making this clear up front will make the entire process much more enjoyable.

As one of their main responsibilities will be showing people to their seats, it is really important that the groomsmen arrive at the ceremony in good time. In addition, they should know which seats are reserved so that nobody gets confused as the ceremony winds down.

After the ceremony itself, the groomsmen can also help to escort everybody out of the church. This can be an important task especially during big weddings. It is a good idea to move people out one pew at a time so that it does not get too congested.

Overall, groomsmen are in the wedding more for support than anything else, but they should always be available to help out with any issues that may arise. Regardless, groomsmen go a long way in making sure that the wedding goes off without any problems.
